At the 45th ADAC Zurich 24h-Race at Nürburgring, FALKEN scooped an impressive 8th place for the debut of its Falken BMW M6 GT3 – the third best BMW to take part in the event. However, the Falken Porsche 911 GT3 R was involved in a collision in the 26th lap, which meant a premature end to the competition for Falken’s other vehicle in the race.
The in-house battle between the Falken Porsche and Falken BMW teams was initially won by the Porsche team after the timed training round. Martin Ragginger, Jörg Bergmeister, Dirk Werner and Laurens Vanthoor were in 25th starting position at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 R, while Peter Dumbreck, Alexandre Imperatori, Stef Dusseldorp and Marco Seefried followed in 37th starting position in the BMW M6 GT3.
Despite facing unusually hot temperatures, both teams got off to a roaring start. While others experienced problems as tyres disintegrated quickly in the heat, both the Porsche and the BMW completed their first stints as planned and worked their way up to the front of the field as cool as cucumbers.
The 911 GT3 R was the fastest Porsche in the race, breaking into the top 10 after only a few laps before being scraped by another car around four hours into the race; the Porsche emerged a write-off from the ensuing collision.
However, the M6 GT3 delivered consistently good performance in its first 24-h Race in the Falken colours. In the cooler night hours and on the Sunday, which dawned sunny and hot once again, the Falken tyres put up an outstanding performance on the BMW. Despite its 37th starting position, the FALKEN BMW finished eighth overall after 24 hours.
“We’re delighted that under these extreme conditions, we were able to showcase the outstandingly versatile performance of our tyres”, enthuses Markus Bögner, COO of Falken Tyre Europe GmbH, over the result. “Our thanks go to our Motorsports Team and to our partners at BMW and Porsche – and of course to our drivers, who did us proud in our very first double entry for the 24h-Race.”
Over 600 customers and journalists from all European markets were Falken guests at the Nürburgring race track, experiencing all the thrills and spills of the motorsports weekend right up close from the various hospitality areas.
Falken was one of the main sponsors of the 24h-Race and demonstrated this commitment both on and next to the racetrack. The Falken Drift Show and Drift Taxis kept the fans entertained and whipped up their enthusiasm. The Falken Grid Girls were also in the spotlight with the fans, drawing all eyes in the starting line-up and in the drivers’ paddock, where a constant barrage of selfies were the order of the day.
“We also made the most of our involvement in the race in media terms, fielding three film crews, a helicopter and an array of photographers plus social media teams. This enabled us to generate unique content, which we then fed to our various global media channels”, explains Stephan Cimbal, Head of Marketing at Falken Tyre Europe GmbH about the successful event. “Falken stands for enthusiasm, inspiration and high-tech – and that’s certainly what we demonstrated throughout the four days of the 24h-Race.”
